While there are many ways to treat toenail fungus, I consistently have come across the fact that tea tree oil is the most effective toenail fungus home remedy. Follow these tips and diminish your toenail fungus problem in a matter of weeks.
Keep your nails short
Use a metal nail clipper to keep your toenails as short as possible. Cut them so that no nail protrudes out from the toe, and no white is left on the edge of the nail. You want to cut off as much of the infected toenail as possible without damaging your nail further or causing your toe to bleed. Remember to disinfect the nail clippers after using it on infected toenails.
Keep your nails thin
Toenails will often grow thicker due to the fungus and can not only be unsightly but also impossible to penetrate with any treatments. You need to use a metal nail file to file down your toenails as much as possible. Once your toenails are filed down, the tea tree oil will be absorbed into the nail bed much faster and be much more affective. Make sure to disinfect the nail fail after using it on your infected toenails.
Wash your feet
Wash your feet with soap and warm water before administering tea tree oil. Keeping your feet clean is one of the best ways to naturally fight off toenail fungus.
Administer essential tea tree oil
Use a Q-tip or cotton swab and rub tea tree oil onto the infect nails, on their cuticles and around the toes until the area is moist. Apply tea tree oil 2 to 3 times a day. Make sure the last treatment of the day is right before bedtime. You can purchase tea tree oil over the counter at your local pharmacy or drug store.
Wear sandals or cotton socks in shoes
Make sure to wear sandals or shoes with cotton socks at all times. If you are lounging with your feet up, bare feet is ok. Sandals and shoes stop you from spreading toenail fungus to other members of your household and in public spaces. Cotton socks lets your feet breathe and stay fresh and dry while absorbing any moisture in your shoes which would otherwise cause fungus to grow and spread.
