Putting on a play is a challenging project, but with a little planning, it is an achievable task. There are many steps involved in putting on a play, all depending on particular circumstances.
Here is a checklist for putting
on a play:
- Pick the right room where the play is going to be. First step in putting on a play is to pick the perfect place for the play. The auditorium should have a stage that is big enough to place all play actors and a play set. Also, the room should accommodate all the guests that will attend the play. If you are organizing a school play and you are inviting kids’ friends and families, then you should consider an auditorium of a minimum of 50 guests.
- Choose the right play. Choosing the right play is one of the most important aspects of producing a successful event. If you are doing a school play, then the play should be age appropriate with easy –to-remember lines. If you are putting on a community play, then you should consider your community’s interests.
- Choose the right actors for the right roles. When choosing the right actors for the right roles, you should hold an audition. If it is a school play, ask every interested student to read you a short monolog. If you are putting on a community play, then ask your community members to audition for a specific role they want.
- Choose the right music. Every play should have background music. Music should reflect the mood of the play to help delivering the message for viewers.
- Make costumes. You can tell a lot about the play by looking at actors costumes. Although the quality of any play will depend on the budget and available time, you will have to be creative. If you don’t have time to make costumes, then you can rent them from the drama department at your local university or try costume party stores.
- Build a set. Building a set is another step of putting on a play. You’ll spend most of the time on building a stage, bringing in furniture, and creating play specific environment. You should ask creative people to help you with the set.
- Create play invitations. Invitations give a play a professional look. Also, you can include the description of the program, so that people would know what the play is about.
- Enjoy the play. Final step of putting on a play is to enjoy the play. All the work is done and you should be proud.
