Toenail fungus can be hard to treat because the fungus actually grows underneath your toenail. You can apply treatment to your toenails as much as you want, but actively curing the toenail fungus requires a bit more. Follow these gungus under toenail treatment tips and cure your toenail fungus once and for all!
File and clip
Clipping your toenails can be hard when they are infected with fungus because they often grow thicker. First, file your toenails down with a metal nail file to their regular size. Then, take a metal toenail clippers and clip as much of the nail off as you can without making your toe bleed. You want your nails as short as possible! This will make cleaning your toenails much easier as there is less places for dirt to hide and eliminates the amount of toenail fungus has to grow under.
Wash with antibacterial soap
Use antibacterial soap to wash your toes and nails multiple times a day. Keeping the area clean and disinfected prevents toenail fungus from growing further. Keeping your toenails and feet clean and dry eliminates fungus causing environments.
Use Tea Tree Oil
Among the many different kinds of home treatments available for toenail fungus, tea tree oil is the most effective. It works as a barrier on your skin to prevent toenail fungus from growing any more and simultaneously acts as an antifungal and kills fungus. Tea tree oil is natural and will not be harsh on your body, just on toenail fungus. Apply the oil to your toenail using a Q-tip 2-3 times a day.
Slowly but surely the fungus goes away
As you continue to treat with tea tree oil, wash with antibacterial soap and file and clip your nails on a regular, day to day basis, the fungus under your toenails will eventually be eliminated. For most people this process takes a few weeks, for others it can take up to a few months. Be patient, there is no overnight treatment for toenail fungus. It will however, eventually go away if you are consistent with treatment.
