- Get a game tester degree. The best way to become a game tester is to earn a game testing degree. As game engineering becomes a popular career path, many local universities offer game testing as a degree. After getting this degree you will be able to successfully identify gaming flaws, difficulties in using game interface, and code bugs. Most universities offer two year program with concentrations in game testing, web developing and basic programming. They will not only teach you the depths of game testing, but also offer hands- on experience testing real games. Having a game tester degree will give you an advantage over job candidates without the degree.
- Programming background. If you don’t have a game tester degree, but you have some programming background, you still will be eligible to become a game tester. Programming background is the foundation for game testing. Without it, you won’t be able to understand the technical aspects of the business and effectively communicate with the gaming engineers.
- Passion to play games. In order to become a game tester, having passion to play games is a must. Without this passion you will never become a successful game tester. Game testers spend most of their working days testing video games looking for errors and bugs and enjoy playing games on their free time.
