If you’ve ever flown in a plane then you know that it is the little details that make the overall difference on your flight. Over the years I have come across some flight travel tips that improve my flight experience immensely. Follow these flight travel tips and arrive at your destination in a more relaxed, comfortable state.

Fight Jet Lag

Don’t let jet lag take up a few days of your trip. If the time in the country where you have just landed is earlier than 1:00pm don't sleep for any longer than 3 hours in the morning.  Force yourself to carry on the day and do not go to but until at least 7pm that night. You will adjust in a matter of a day.  This is a tried and true method relayed to me by an experienced flight attendant.

Pack the essentials in your carry on

While airlines do their best, checked baggage does get lost. Make sure to bring your prescriptions and your travel documents along with you on the plane.  Pack small sample bottles of shampoo, makeup, deodorant and toothpaste in your carry on along with a brush, toothbrush, fresh change of underwear and a pair of clothes.

Avoid loosing your bags

There are precautions you can take to avoid loosing your checked luggage.  It is best to use suitcases with clear plastic windows for identification papers to slide in. This helps others to be able to identify your bag and make sure it is going to the right location. Make sure your contact information is current in the case that your bag is found and needs to be returned to you.  Make sure to mark every bag that you check.  It helps to also put a bright colored ribbon on the handle of your bag so that it can easily be identified as it goes around the carousel.

Book the best seat for you

There is a best seat for everyone on a plane.  Seats located in the center of the plane do not experience as much turbulence, and would be the best choice for nervous fliers.  If you are on a red eye, or overnight flight, a window seat is often the best choice so that you can lean to the side and rest your head. If it is important that you get off the plane promptly make sure to sit on an isle seat as you will be able to get off the plane faster.

Avoid seats that are close to the bathroom, as people will constantly be walking by you and you will hear their flushing sounds the entire trip.  Exit rows are the obvious first choice as there is more leg room than a normal coach seat.  The other best choice is bulkhead seats, which are those that are directly behind the walls or curtains separating sections of the plane.  Leg room is ample; however there is no storage in front of you.
