You’ve seen people with it, you know it’s common, and you don’t have to get toenail fungi yourself. Follow these tips and be proud of beautiful fungi free bare feet forever.
Wear sandals in public spaces
Toenail fungi is most common in public spaces, such as gyms, locker rooms, pools, showers, saunas and spas. Protect your feet by wearing sandals while showering and walking on these tile floors. Do not step in puddles on the floors as fungi grows here as well.
Keep your feet clean and dry
Regularly wash your feet and keep them dry. Do not let them sit in sweaty shoes all day. After walking through public spaces with sandals wash your feet as soon as you get home so that fungus does not have a chance to grow.
Don’t share with people who have toenail fungi
If you know someone who has toenail fungi be careful not to share towels, toenail clippers or nail files with them unless they have thoroughly washed and disinfected the objects after use. If showering in the same shower as someone with toenail fungi, wear sandals in the shower and encourage them to disinfect the bottom of the shower after they use it. It is very easy to pick up toenail fungus.
Wear breathable socks and shoes
Toenail fungi thrive in dark and damp places so do not let your feet sit in sweaty shoes all day. Wear cotton socks which absorb sweat and allow air in to your feet. Avoid tight shoes and tights or nylons which do not let air get to your feet. Shows that allow your toe nails to breath are the best option.
