Learning how to make a flyer will allow you to advertise your business using your own creative input. Here are some tips on making a flyer to advertise your business:

  • The Facts

Write down the information you want to put in your flyer on a piece of scratch paper. Include any special discounts, events, promotions, and addresses that need to be included. Try to keep the information concise and only include pertinent information. Depending on the size of the flyer, you may not have that much room and you don’t want it to appear cluttered.

  • Sketch

With a pencil, sketch a rough draft of what you want your flyer to look like visually. Make sure the sketch is the actual size of the flyer you are going to create so you know how much room you have to work with (4X6, 5X7, 8.5X14, etc.). Make sure to put your business name at the top-center so it is the most identifiable and visible text on the flyer. Include the graphics/pictures you want to include and see how it will mesh with the text.

  • Computer Software

Most word-processing programs have templates that will help you create a flyer. One of the most preferred software programs to use is Adobe Photoshop. This program gives you a great deal of text options and will allow you to manipulate the photos you want to include in the flyer. Refer to your sketch while designing your flyer by computer. Make sure to use text font that will be easy to read (Times New Roman, Aerial e.g.).

  • Design Tips

Making a border around the flyer will help draw attention to important information inside. Keep the flyer balanced with text to make the design look clean. Its good to include graphics/pictures, but too many will distract readers from the information you want to give. It is also a good idea to give the flyer an interesting background (pattern, blurred picture, neutral color). This will keep your flyer from looking too plain and amateurish.
