Kid’s acting schools are great for children who are interested in the performing arts or looking to improve their language skills. Here are some tips I know on how to find the right kid’s acting school for your child:
 | | Check out the local theatres in your area |
Think about your goals in sending your child to a kid’s acting school. Are they interested in performing? Do they have a special talent? Does the child need to improve communication skills? Being aware of your goal will help guide your search on finding the right kids acting school for your child.
Check out the local theatres in your area to see if they house a kid’s acting school. Joining a local theatre gives your child the opportunity to both take classes and perform in youth productions. It’s a great benefit for kids to apply their acting lessons to the play they’re performing. This will also give your child a positive social outlet outside of school.
Some universities and community colleges host summer acting camps for kids. Call local colleges to see what acting programs they provide that particular year. This will give your child the option of learning at a top-notch facility. College acting camps are often lead by respected faculty and capable student teachers summer acting camps (depending on the school).
Search for acting schools in your area that provide classes for children. A good way to check out the school is to audit a class (attend the class as a visitor). Acting schools allow you to choose the level that’s right for your child. It can be very beneficial for your child to learn from their peers in a group class who are all on the same level. Acting schools also give you the choice to place your child in an advanced class if the child is more serious about acting.
See if there are any online reviews of the acting schools you find (yelp, yahoo!answers). Ask you friends who are involved in the performing arts to recommend good schools for your child. Make sure the school has a good reputation for training and treating their students well. Beware of schools that promise to get your child work acting/modeling (John Robert Powers, Barbizon e.g.). These schools specialize more in getting inside your wallet!
