What is the best way for marketing a book

No matter how much work you've put into your book to publish, you have much more work ahead of you to market and promote your book. You don't have to spend a fortune by hiring a publicist or marketing company, market your book in a lost cost way.

Use your own networks.

Promote the book at your children's school, your church, community center, local library and bookstores.  Have your friends, family and neighbors read your book. Make a website about your book with an option to download an electronic version or order a copy and attach the link to your email signature.

Utilize online marketing tools.

Online publishing companies often have their own bookstores that they sell your book on, offering you a certain percentage of royalties every time the book is sold. They can also connect you with bigger merchants and online bookstores.

I strongly recommend listing your book on Amazon.com in both hard and electronic versions. Amazon is a great place to market and sell your book.  They offer countless author tools to help lead people to your book and they help to market your book for you by offering rating and reader review options. Amazon is one of the most used online bookstores today so you are sure to get some exposure.

I also recommend checking out iUniverse which offers an Authors Took Kit that assists you with the publicity and marketing of your book on its own bookstore, promoting it to other bookstores and showing you how to utilize other media (local newspapers, radio stations, etc) to advertize your book.

Search Engine Optimization

Use a book title that comes up at the top of search engines. Chose a title that doesn't have a lot of other products under the same name. You should also list your book under as many different genres as possible, so a broader audience will be exposed to your book.

Market as an eBook

Offering your book in eBook format is also a good idea in order to reach a larger audience.  You can offer the first half of your book to free for readers to download or view, and if they like it (which they should!) they will have to pay to read the rest. Ingenious! There are many places you can offer an eBook for free viewing.

Don't expect overnight success.

Promoting and marketing your book takes a lot of work and a lot of patience. If your book is a good read, word will slowly spread. Have faith in your ability as an author to write a book people will want to read and want their friends to read.
