Newsletters allow you to communicate with the public about what your organization is up to on a weekly or monthly basis. Creating a newsletter on your home or office computer is easier than ever; however, you should be aware of some important components to include when creating a newsletter.
Use these components in your newsletter:
Nameplate- Placing a title banner on the front page of your newsletter is important so readers can identify the name of your newsletter and organization. It should contain a logo, your organization's motto or some kind of graphic related to the purpose of your company. You should also list the publication information such as the volume or issue number and the date the newsletter is published.
Table of Contents- Make sure to include a table of contents on the first page if your newsletter is longer then two pages. Remember to put numbers on the pages for guests to flip to where they want to read with ease.
Bylines- It is important to include bylines in your newsletter, italicized phrases or paragraphs after before or after an article that lists the author. Bylines normally begin with the word, "By..." and you can chose whether or not you want to include a brief synopsis of the author to their credibility.
The Masthead- You may not have heard of the masthead before, it is a listing of the editor and publisher of the newsletter and other important information like names of contributors, how to subscribe to the newsletter, addresses, phone numbers, and other important contact and need-to-know information. A masthead should be included in every newsletter, and can be placed anywhere except for the front page.
