Brochures are the medium that an organization or company uses to reach out to customers, volunteers and donors. Creating a brochure yourself is easy to do, however it is important to follow the necessary tips in order for the finished product to be of high quality.
Make sure to include the vitals. Make a list of the important information to include before you start making your brochure. It can be easy to get wrapped up in layout and design of a brochure and forget to include the important details - like your company's name, logo, mailing address, phone number and website.
Use software that facilitates brochure designs. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark Xpress, and Microsoft Publisher allow you to create professional brochures on your own computer. You can also create a brochure using Microsoft Word, though you need to play around with settings in order for it to print right.
Allow for bleed. If you want your image or color to go to the cut of the page, place your photo or color block slightly over the edge of the paper. This is called letting the image bleed.
Use high quality photos. Your pictures should be high resolution images (at least 300 dpi, or dots per inch).
Change the color mode to CMYK. Your computer's color mode is RGB, making colors seem enhanced and bright on the screen. Printing presses print with the CMYK color mode, so you want to make sure to create your brochure with CMYK color options on. You can normally do this in the Tools or Options menu.
Be creative with your fonts. Brochure and document building software come with many fonts already built into their programming. To make your brochure stand out among others search online for fun, creative (and legible!) fonts to download and use.
