Want to experience the streets of London or the French countryside in summer? Here are some ideas to gain experience and some money abroad.
Au pair. There are several au pair agencies and websites that are designed to set you up with a family that needs children to be looked after during all months of the year. Start looking now for summer opportunities. Often you will be required to take a language course while you are there if you stay in a country that speaks another language than your own.
Farm exchanges. You may not receive a salary for many farm exchanges, but you will receive room and board in exchange for a great hands-on community experience. Check out World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (wwoof.org) and www.transitionsabroad.com/listings/work/shortterm/farm_jobs_agriculture.shtml, helpexchange.net, and workaway.info for job opportunities.
Tourist services. There are often short-term job opportunities in the tourism industry: check out www.transitionsabroad.com, www.jobmonkey.com/europejobs/summer-tourism-jobs.html
Teach English. Teach your language in a foreign country during a summer program. Check out BUNAC.or, teflinstitute.com, and interexchange.org.
Internships. Get experience in a field you're interested in during the summer. Check out internabroad.com, europlacement.com, globalexperiences.com, and www.transitionsabroad.com/listings/work/internships/Europe.shtml.
