Your pregnancy test is positive - now what? Find out what to do when pregnant by reading the tips below.
Make a doctor's appointment. Schedule a prenatal appointment as soon as possible. Your doctor will do a cervical exam and ultra sound to make sure the pregnancy is a healthy one.
Tell your loved ones. As excited as you may be to be pregnant, having a baby is also very stressful and you will experiences changes in your body that alter your moods and your ability to get as much done. Share your news with loved ones so they can support you through the pregnancy. It is also fun to get excited with other people about the new addition that's on the way!
Learn about pregnancy. Understand how your body will be changing in the next 9 months. Hospitals offer pregnancy classes and free resources for expectant mothers. One book that is extremely popular and helpful is "What to Expect When You're Expecting" by Heidi Murkof and Sharon Mazol.
Take Care of Your Health. Sleep, eat well, take your prenatal vitamins, exercise regularly, and drink lots of water. Make sure to get enough folic acid, omega 3 fatty acids and protein to ensure that you baby grows healthy and strong.
Avoid harmful substances. Don't drink alcohol - it causes birth defects, fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS), retardation, growth deficiencies, central nervous system dysfunction and organ failure in babies. Don't smoke, it causes miscarriage, pre-term birth, low birth weight and infant death. Avoid illegal drugs since they risk the baby with the same health problems as alcohol does.
