Your chances of getting pregnant in your 30's drop 5% every year. By the time you reach your late 30's you only have 50-65% of a chance of getting pregnant within a year of trying. Having a baby is still possible, increase your chances by exploring ways to increase fertility.
Reduce your caffeine intake. Caffeine has been proven to increase the risk of miscarriage, growth problems and low birth weights. Opt for caffeine free tea and decaffeinated coffee. Look for natural sources of energy instead like vitamin D (supplements or exposure to sunshine), zinc, vitamin C, exercise regularly and eat a diet that consists of complex carbohydrates and raw fruits and vegetables.
Stop taking contraceptives. Cease taking your birth control pills at least 3 months before you start trying to conceive. This gives your reproductive organs time to work normally. For some women it can take up to 6 months for the uterus to be able to hold a child after the use of contraceptives.
Take prenatal multivitamins. Take a multivitamin designed for women who wish to conceive. Prenatal vitamins will give your body the vitamins and nutrients it needs to grow a healthy child. This will decrease the risks of birth defects, premature births and low birth weights. Your multivitamin should contain at least 400 mcg of folic acid.
Exercise everyday. Being at and maintaining a healthy weight increases fertility. Exercising daily keeps your body in shape and strong enough to support a second life. Get your blood pumping for at least 30 minutes every day.
Make smart food choices. Eating well keeps your body in top reproductive condition. Eat iron rich foods like skinless chicken, beans and peas. Make sure to include lots of whole grains, colorful fruits and vegetables and lots of calcium rich foods in your diet as well. Avoid trans-fats, sugars and sodium.
Stay Hydrated. When you do get pregnant your body will need extra fluids to help the development of a baby. Liquids reduce constipation and are necessary for the increase in blood volume when you are carrying a child. Drink lots of water, V8 juice and nonfat milk.
