Suffering from a cough is miserable and painful, causes exhaustion, a sore and inflamed throat and a raspy voice.  If you've wondered what is the best treatment for cough - look no farther! Stop your coughing today by following these tips.

WARNING: Don't ever suppress a phlegm cough. Suppressing coughs with mucus forces the mucus to pool in your lungs and can cause serious health problems. A cough that clears mucus from your lungs is your body's way to help you breath better and feel better faster. The sooner you get rid of phlegm, the more healthy you will be.

  • Run a humidifier. A sore throat caused by both dry and phlegm coughs can be soothed with a humidifier. A humidifier puts moisture in the hair of a room and makes breathing and coughing easier.

Dry coughs can be suppressed, especially since they cause tickling and a sore, irritated throat.  You can treat a dry cough by:

  • Soaking on throat lozenges or cough drops. Make sure your choice of lozenges contain menthol and oral anesthetic, which is what soothes a sore throat and reduces coughing.
  • Take homemade cough syrup. Drink a mixture of 2 tablespoons of lemon juice (which reduces inflammation),1 tablespoon of honey (which coats the sore throat), and a pinch of cayenne pepper (hastens the healing of throat tissue by increasing blood circulation to the area).
  • Drink anti-cough tea.  Thyme tea calms a dry cough by helping the respiratory tract to relax. Boil hot water and seep 2 tablespoons of fresh thyme or 1 tablespoon of dried thyme for 5 minutes.
