No body enjoys suffering from a cold. It can be miserable having to carry on your normal routine with a stuffy nose, sinus headache, runny nose, sore throat, cough, fever and aches and pains. Having just recently overcome a severe cold myself, I have discovered what is the best treatment for the common cold.
Set up a get well station. Make yourself comfortable and set yourself up to get better. Surround yourself with a box of soft Kleenex, a bag or trash can to throw used Kleenex in, a bottle of water, cold medication and something to keep you occupied - work, television or a good book.
Purchase over-the-counter cold medicine. There are many brands available, purchase whichever you prefer but make sure it will help your cold symptoms. Your cold medicine should contain antihistamine, acetaminophen, diphenhydramine HCI and phenylephrine HCI. Some brands I recommend include Sudafed, Tylenol Cold, Theraflu, and Vick's Dayquil and Nyquil.
Drink lots of water. By drinking plenty of liquids you flush your body of toxins and improve your body's ability to fight the cold. Green tea is especially good to drink since it contains theamine, an agent that boosts interferon proteins in the white blood cell increasing your ability to fight off cold and flu viruses.
Take Echinacea and fight your cold faster! A natural immune system supporting herb, Echinacea supplements are clinically proven to help your body beat the cold faster. Take 2 capsules twice a day, every day until a week after you feel no symptoms. Other herbs known to boost your immune system and help fight the common cold include: Andrographis, Asian Ginsey, Astragalus, Boneset, Eleuthero, Garlic, Goldenseal, Hyssep, Linden, Wild Indego.
