Determine if you have lice by knowing what lice look like and feel like. Identifying if you have lice is important because you want to start treatment as soon as possible, but sometimes it can be hard to distinguish between lice, dandruff and dirt on the scalp. If you're wondering to yourself, "What do lice look like?" you can find guidance on identifying lice below.
Understand what lice do: Lice feed on human blood and live in human hair. Their life span lasts 30 days, and each louse lays 6-8 eggs every day. The eggs, called nits, are glued to the hair shafts. Nits hatch in 7-11 days, take 7 days to mature before they themselves can lay more eggs. Getting rid of this type of infestation as soon as possible is important because of lice's ability to quickly increase in number and spread.
Know What lice feel like:
Sure signs that you indeed do have a lice in your hair normally include intense itching of the scalp, feeling a tickling or moving in your hair, red sores on the scalp, irritability and sleeplessness.
What do Lice Look Like:
If you feel like you may have lice, the next step in determining whether or not you do is by looking for them on your scalp. They can be either tan, grey-white or red-brown. Lice look like small insects, about the size of a sesame seed, and have hook-like claws that grasp the hair and bite the flesh. Nits vary between being clear, they sit at the base of the hair shaft, and generally cluster around the ears and at the base of the neck. Lice move quickly and avoid light, so you have to look carefully for them. The best way of spotting lice is by standing under a bright light and having a friend of family member search through your hair.
