How To Save Money By Using Coupons

Just because you have a $1.00 coupon does not necessarily mean that you will get the best deal!  After hearing stories of people who basically get money BACK from grocery stores by using coupons, it intrigued me to start clipping my own coupons.  Where I am not getting $200 worth of groceries for $10 like some...I am saving a considerable about ($15-$30 a week!) by following these simple tips.

  • If you do not subscribe to your Sunday newspaper, go on ahead and do it.  My local paper is very expensive for Sunday only, so I opted for the Washington Post.  It was $24 a month, delivered to my door for six months!  Otherwise, I was paying $1-2.50 per WEEK on a newspaper just for coupons!  Not to mention it is a guaranteed way to get all of your coupons without having to leave your house, the cost pays for itself after your first trip to the grocery store.
  • Realize that just because you have a coupon does not mean that it is a good deal.  Sometimes, even with the coupon, another brand or similar item will still be cheaper.  Be sure to look at other products around to make sure that you are indeed getting a good deal.  Also, avoid buying products you do not need just because you have a coupon.
  • Combine coupons with in store sales and two for ones.  Also, in your Sunday paper, you will receive your grocery stores weekly sale ad.  Check out what is on sale - this is how your coupon savings can go a long way!
  • Double/Triple Coupons anyone?  Find a grocery store that will double your coupons!  When there is a special promotion going on, stock up on the essentials that you do use every day if you have a coupon.  Be sure to check any restrictions before you shop.
  • Buy the smallest size possible.  Just because you are buying in bulk does not mean that you are saving money! Also, many coupons may not specify a quantity or size that you have to purchase.  Always consider the price per ounce before purchasing to ensure that you are getting a better deal.
  • Get together with your friends and trade coupons!  If you have a new mom, clip her diaper coupons for her, and she will give you something that you desire.
  • Check your local grocery store for coupon bins.  Also, nowadays, by being a valued customer, you are likely to receive coupons at the end of your purchase.
  • Print coupons on line.  There are great options for quickly accessing coupons if you just cannot wait for Sunday to come!  Be sure to check with your grocery store to see if they do take printed coupons - some are not.
  • Organize!  Go on ahead and buy a coupon organizer!  You will save time and energy keeping everything together.  Also, be sure to make a list and stick to it when you go to the store!  This will ensure that you do indeed save money and not pick up added things along the way.  While making your list, go on ahead and pull out the coupons that you may use - another time saver.
