If you are like me, plants almost die as soon as you bring them into the house. With the proper care, your indoor plants can live and thrive for years! Follow these tips in order to keep all of your houseplants alive for years to come!
- Keep your plants in a naturally well-lit area, but out of direct sunlight. Flowering plants require more light than your big, leafy green variety.
- Steer clear of drafty areas, open windows and heating vents.
- Always water your plants in the early morning. Water does not evaporate as readily then as it does in the heat of the afternoon. Check with your florist or follow your plants directions.
- Overwatering is the most common way to kill plants. The soil gets soggy and prevents oxygen from going to the roots. To check if a plant needs water, stick your finger in the soil about an inch; if its moist, do not water.
- Make sure your pot has drainage holes so that water does not collect in the bottom, which can lead to root rot and kill the plant.
- Mist your plants with a water-filled spray bottle to ward off any insects.
