There is no cure for the common cold, however you can boost your body's ability to fight it off faster and relieve cold symptoms. Follow this natural cold remedy to feel better and say goodbye to your cold faster.
Stimulate your immune system. There are certain herbs that have been proven to boost your body's immune system which helps your body to fight colds and other illnesses faster. I personally have found that Echinacea is effective in preventing and shortening the length of colds. The following herbs are also said to help boost the immune system:
- Andrographis
- Asian Ginsey
- Astragalus
- Boneset
- Eleuthero
- Garlic
- Goldenseal
- Hyssep
- Linden
- Wild Indego
Relieve your cold symptoms. Use natural herbs to fight cold symptoms rather than use over-the-counter drugs that contain ingredients that aren't necessarily good for you and can create dependence.
- To help relieve a sore throat try the herbal supplements of sage, yarrow, blackberry, blueberry, red raspberry, colts foot, mallow, and mullein.
- To relieve stuffiness eucalyptus and peppermint are quite effective.
- To relieve aches try the herb meadowsweet.
Drink lots of fluids. Keeping your body hydrated will help you to fight a cold off faster. Fluids flush our toxins from your body, helping to clean your system. Black and Green tea are especially good to drink, since they contain L-theamine, which promotes white blood cells to produce interferon proteins that fight against cold and flu viruses, along with naturally killing off bacteria, parasites and tumor cells.
Get lots of sleep. When you have a cold let your body sleep as much as it needs to. Sleep in, go to bed early and take naps. Sleep helps your body to fight off viruses that cause colds faster. Also, if you don't let yourself get enough sleep your cold will be prolonged and can worsen.
Eat to fight a cold. Another great way to boost your immune system and fight of a nasty cold (or to keep them at bay) is by eating lots of shellfish. Shellfish contains selenium, which increases the production of the protein cytokines in your blood, which helps fight the cold virus. You should also eat foods that contain the Omega-3 fatty acids which increase the amount of white blood cells in the blood, thus naturally boosting your immune system.
