Destroying a Credit Card

Your credit card has allowed you some fun. But now there is pain as you pay for all that play.

The best way to avoid misusing your credit card again is to incapacitate it. It must be destroyed before it destroys you.

Cut each card into puzzle pieces.

Creative credit card destruction is good catharsis – as well as the cheapest way for your credit card to provide you one last bit of fun.

• Make a puzzle. With heavy duty scissors, cut each card into deer tick-sized puzzle pieces. Or, for geometry fun, use pinking sheers to make lots of tiny triangles.
• Make cookie cards. In his book The Complete Financial Guide for Young Couples, Larry Burkett recommends this method: “Preheat your oven to 450, grease a cookie pan, and throw your credit cards in on top of it.” Do not eat these cookies.
• Sight in your firearm. At a firing range, paste your credit card to a target. A smaller caliber firearm will give you more shots, but a larger caliber may be more cathartic.
•  Test your tools. Take your credit card with your into your garage or workshop. Clamp your card in a bench vice. Then, one by one, use each of your hand and power tools to see how your tool handles a credit card. Use gloves and eye protection.
• Be careful out there. Do not touch hot plastic, and do not breathe in burning plastic fumes. Appropriately dispose of credit card debris. Do not look back.
