Feel free to start a new family tradition this Thanksgiving, and to rediscover some old ones.
Dress up as Pilgrims and Indians. This can be fun for children and adults. For multiple family gatherings, the visiting family can dress up as Indians and visit the "Pilgrim" family.
Make an authentic Pilgrim Thanksgiving meal. Do some research and try to make the big meal as close as possible as the one the Pilgrims and Indians shared: venison, succotash, fresh corn, cornbread, English cheese pie, wild turkey, garlic and onions, stewed pumpkin, pumpkin pudding, and Indian pudding.
Host a potluck. This is in the true spirit indeed of the first Thanksgiving. Shop for ingredients at your local farmers' market.
Serve in a soup kitchen or host a free Thanksgiving meal at your home or church.
Send thank-you notes or gifts to the special people in your life.
Play football outside with friends and family. In our family this event is called the Turkey Bowl.
If you're in New York, visit Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.
Make harvest themed crafts: paper turkeys, pine cones with peanut butter for the birds, decorated pumpkins, corn husk dolls, etc.
Attend your church's Thanksgiving service, if they hold one.
