Knowing your Internet connection is the first step in diagnosing any connectivity problems. The average Internet speed should be given to you by your service provider. You can check your actual Internet connection by going Control Panel ® Network Connections. Find the connection you are using. Click on “Status” to find out your speed and the duration of the connection. Depending on your operating system, you might have to right click on your connection icon and then click on “Status.” This is also were you would start diagnosing connectivity problems if you are experiencing any.

If you are not experiencing any connectivity problems and have access to the Internet, the best way to check your Internet connection is through one of the numerous web sites, like speedtest.net. All you have to do is to click on “Test” button. You’ll be provided the results of the test which will include your download and upload speeds as well your distance from the server.
