As a teenager traveling with your family can be both fun and a drag. Here are some travel tips for teens who want to make the best out of their family vacation.

On family vacation having a bad attitude will ruin the trip for everyone – including you. Even if your parents or siblings (or both) annoy to the point of exasperation, simply take some time out for yourself. Grab your iPod or book and chill out away from everyone else. Remember that your simply being there means a lot to the rest of the family. When you have a bad attitude, the rest of your family will become sour too, which can make the trip even worse. Even if you would rather not be there try and remind yourself that family time is important.
Stay in Communication
If you’re a teen traveling alone keep in contact with your parents home. Though it may seem like a drag, this lets them know you're all right and not to worry. In the rare case that anything were to happen, people would know sooner to look for you if your email or phone calls stopped coming.
Hide your Valuables
If you are a teen traveling internationally, never put your wallet in the obvious places (like your front or back pocket). Don't even tempt the thieves! Lone American teenagers are their easiest prey. Instead, take your cash and cards, passport and travel papers along with you in a hidden compartment or money purse under your clothes. Don’t assume that holding your hand over your pocket will protect your money. Instead, this tells thieves that you have something valuable there and they will “accidentally” bump into you so your hand moves and… suddenly no more money.
