Memorizing Song Lyrics

Learning song lyrics is like memorizing any other fact - you start with just a little bit and work up until you have the whole thing memorized.

Write out the song onto a flash cards or type into a computer document and print it. For some simply writing helps with memorizing. Then, take a verse at a time and see if you can repeat those lines. Sometimes it helps to start with the last verse first.

Listen to the song and try to understand the story. Relate the emotion of the music to the story. Build exagerrated images which you can relate to. You'll remember the story elements easier.

Learn it slowly. You can't honestly expect to learn a two or three page poem in a few days. My suggestion to learn a few lines at a time and keep adding on it to it. 

It's important to have a solid memory of the lyrics in your head because when you come to perform them you'll be concentrating on musical expression and nerves.
