The good news is that oily skin is clinically proven to age slower than normal to dry skin, showing lines, wrinkles and age spots less. Unfortunately if you have oily skin like me you know that it can also be a pain, always shiny and blackhead, blemish and pimple prone.   Check out these simple steps that I have found help keep oily skin under control.

Wash your face 2 to 3 times a day

Washing your face is the key to controlling oily skin.

  • Wash your face 2 to 3 times a day.
  • Shower and cleanse your face in tepid, lukewarm water. Hot water actually sucks the moisture out of your skin.
  • Use mild soap to clean out your pores. Organic cleansers without artificial additives are your best choice. Strong chemicals and alcohol strip your skin of oil and dehydrate it.
  • Avoid Seborrhea. Washing your face more than 3 times a day and using harsh products removes all the natural oil from your skin and can cause a condition known as seborrhea.  This is when your oil glands try to compensate for the loss of natural oils in your skin and over produce oil which leads to excessive breakouts.

Be Selective with what you put on your face.

  • Only use moisturizer if you feel like your skin is dry without it. Oil-free moisturizers are your best choice.
  • Opt for water based cosmetics rather than oil based. You don’t need to add any more oil than necessary to your skin.
