Ladybugs are helpful to have in your garden but can become a nuisance in your home. Check out these tips on getting rid of ladybugs effectively:
Examine the outside of your home to see where the ladybugs are entering. Caulk any cracks you find in the exterior and get sufficient weather stripping for all the doorways. Check for holes in the attic vent screen or in your screen door and replace if necessary.
Try to catch the ladybugs in your hand and release them outside. Ladybugs are fairly slow-moving insects and are not that difficult to catch. This will save your conscience from having to kill such harmless and attractive insect. Squishing ladybugs will also create a yellow stain on any surface that is difficult to remove.
You can also use a vacuum to get rid of ladybugs. Put the vacuum on a low setting and suck up the insects. They most likely stay alive, so you can quickly empty the vacuum and discard ladybugs outside. Another method you can use is to put 8” of pantyhose into your vacuum hose and tie the end with a rubber band. Vacuum the ladybugs into the pantyhose and trap them inside after you take the pantyhose off the hose. Shake the pantyhose off outside and release the ladybugs.
Another option for getting rid of ladybugs is to wait them out (if there aren’t many). They will eventually die or find an exit out of your house. Ladybugs don’t eat household plants and don’t bite. Try collecting as many ladybugs as you can and releasing them into your garden. They are very effective at getting rid of aphids (plant-eating bugs).
