Oily skin can be caused and encouraged by hormone levels, pregnancy, birth control pills, a poor diet, cosmetics, and humidity. I have found that there are some things you can do to eliminate contributing factors to your oily skin and find yourself with a soft and shine-free face.
- Use water-based cosmetics
I have found that many cosmetics have oils in them that make my skin breakout and get shiny and oily. Water-based cosmetics work the best as it does not add any oils to your skin. I use Maybelline’s water based foundation. It will lightly cover your skin with a smooth, breathable finish and is natural looking. Once I started using water-based foundation my entire complexion changed.
Avoid being in very humid places for long periods of time. If possible stay around air conditioning which dries out the air.
If you are on birth control or another medication, talk to your doctor about switching brands. There are certain contraceptives and drugs that help to reduce oily skin and breakouts, while others are known to help hydrate the skin and encourage oil flow.
Reduce the amount of fatty foods you digest and boost your protein intake. Leafy green vegetables and fresh fruits contain essential vitamins and minerals that help to keep your skin healthy and balanced.
Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. I have found that staying hydrated is important to controlling oily skin. A hydrated body allows your skin to detoxify itself correctly.
- Explore the Option of Retinoids
If your oily skin is out of control talk to your doctor about taking retinoid drugs. Retinoids reduce the production and size of oil glands in your skin.
