Tips on choosing a summer camp job

Summer camp jobs are a unique opportunity for young men to make some money and have a lot of fun. For many teenagers, summer camp jobs become the first jobs they ever had.

Here are a few tips that can help you choose a summer camp job:

• Type of the camp. There are numerous types of camps. Choose carefully and consider your own interests. If you have specific interests, consider a camp with the same specialization. There are sports camps, language camps, religious camp, etc. If you want to help kids with disabilities, there are camps that do that.
• Location. Some camps are considered to be day camps, meaning campers and counselors only show up during the day and then go home for the night. The majority of the camps are located outside of the big cities, so the staff members are required to live on the camp site. Check with the camp whether you are allowed to leave the camp at night.
• Position. Each camp offers numerous positions. The majority of them are, of course, as counselors. There are positions as program counselors (like swimming, horse riding, and crafts instructors), but there are many positions as kitchen staff or maintenance staff.
• Accommodations. Try to get as much information about the camp as possible. The best way is, obviously, to talk to someone who worked in the camp before. Find out how much you are expected to work, where you will sleep. Ask about the conditions of the bathrooms, running water, showers, and mosquitoes. Also learn about your days off, whether you can go home and how far is the nearest town.
