How to Break Up

Breaking up is hard to do.  Here is a how to on how to break up with your significant other.

• First, think about why you a breaking up with this person. If you are just upset, you should consider working it out and talking with your partner.  If this issue has been discussed, and nothing has changed, you may need to have "the talk" with your partner.
• Plan out your break up.  How long do you want to be around?  You may need to come up with an excuse to excuse yourself from a messy situation.
• Always break up in person.  Really - breaking up over the phone, email or text is just a wimpy way out.  Be a man/woman and stand up for yourself. 
• Be calm.  If you get upset and angry, your partner will get upset and angry.  If you keep it calm, things will go smoothly.
• Expect reactions: questioning, crying, arguing, begging and lashing out. 
• After the break up, be sure to distance yourself.  Do you call them, do not go to mutual places, do not hang out with their friends.  Distance is the best.
• Do the break up sooner than later.  If you wait, things in your relationship will only get worse.
• Never threaten to break up.  This only makes the relationship worse and the impact of when you DO breakup will diminish if you do this quite often.
