Tips on Avoiding LA Traffic

Avoid wasting a majority of your life sitting in traffic. I have learned that by knowing when to drive you can save time in your day as well as save your sanity. 

• Avoid sitting in your car for hours on end by taking side streets and steering clear of the freeways during rush hour. LA rush hour goes from about 7:30- 10:30 in the morning and 3:00 to 7:00 in the afternoon.   I once tried to drive during rush hour to my boyfriend’s house. He only lives about ten minutes away from me when taking the freeway.  However, I left at 4pm and didn’t arrive at his place until 6pm.

• Beat traffic by doing your errands. Going early and having breakfast at a local coffee shop across the street from work and doing your grocery shopping or catching up with a friend after work are great alternatives to sitting in traffic.  I have a friend who always spends an extra hour after work at a coffee shop in order to wait out traffic. He reads a good book, enjoys a cup of brew, and his commute is reduced to 20 minutes instead of an hour and a half.

• Living close to where you work is often the best way to avoid LA traffic.  If you think about the gas and time you waste while driving your commute every day living closer to where you work, or choosing to work closer to where you live is a great money and time saving alternative.
