Whether you are getting a divorce, being accused of doing something wrong or accusing someone else of a violation, legal issues can be very confusing to navigate. While my family went through a 9 year law suite I found that there are ways to get trustworthy legal advice without costing a fortune. Here are 5 tips for getting legal help that won’t empty your pocket book:
Request a Public Defender
By law you are guaranteed a free lawyer through the public defender's office if you have been charged with a crime. At no cost to you can be fairly defended in a court of law.
Hire based on a contingency fee
Many lawyers will work with you on a contingency fee basis if you are in a civil lawsuit. Only if you win and receive payment through the law suit will you have to pay your attorney. Remember that you also need to pay expenses such as court filing fees and photocopies whether you win or loose the suite.
Take advantage of legal consultations
Many lawyers offer free legal consultations to prospective clients. You can often obtain legal advice simply through a free consultation session.
Check out websites for your state's bar association
Often simple legal advice and general information on specific legal issues and types of cases can be found on your state’s bar association website.
Be leery of free internet legal help
People often say that you get what you pay for, and as far as free legal advice goes, the saying is completely true. Free legal help and advice is not reliable, no matter how honest it seems.
