College bound students all must take the SAT. I found that if you prepare and study for the SAT you have a good chance at doing well on the test. Here are 5 basic SAT test taking tips:
Don't waist too much time on one question.
If a question stumps you, circle the number on your score card so you can easily go back later. Every question is worth the same number of points. If you don't get back to that hard one at the end of the test, you at least moved on and finished the other questions.
Know where you are in the section
Generally in the SAT easier questions are in the beginning of the section and harder ones at the end. In the beginning if an answer seems obvious then it probably is. Near the end of the section if the answer seems obvious it might very well be a trap so take care to look at the question thoroughly.
Guess, Guess, Guess!!
The general rule of thumb is that if you can eliminate at least one possible answer, then guess and never leave a question blank. Eliminate as many of the answer options that you know for sure are wrong, and then make your best guess between the remaining answers. There is always at least 25% of a chance that you guessed correctly.
Dress Prepared
Test centers always vary in temperature, and unfortunately it seems to always be either extremely hot or extremely cold. Be prepared for both extremes by dressing in layers. Being comfortable during the SAT is the key to doing your best.
Mark and Erase Well
Stray marks on the answer sheet can be hard to decipher for the computer that scores your test. Make sure you erase all unnecessary marks completely. If you erased in circle to change your answer, make sure the pencil marks are absolutely gone. At the end of the test go back and darken all your answers. You don't want the computer to score your test wrong!
