Constipation can be quite uncomfortable, even painful. If constipated for too long you can permanently damage your colon and have future digestive trouble. The following remedy for constipation will relieve your constipation problem and related worries.
Drink water like never before. Guzzle water and other caffeine-free beverages such as herbal tea, lemonade, and prune and blueberry juice. You should have at least eight 8-oz glasses of sugar-free, non-caffeinated liquids a day. The extra water softens and loosens bowel movements that have hardened and are stuck. Liquids can also lubricate your intestines helping feces to move through your digestive track easier. Dehydration itself can be a cause of constipation and at the very least can worsen the problem.
Fiber it out! Fiber is nature's natural laxative. You can get fiber in oats and grains, fruits and leafy green vegetables, along with fiber supplements in capsules and water-soluble powders. If you have been constipated for a few days, try going on an all-fruit (no banana or plantain) diet. This always works for me.
Move around! Exercise keeps your digestive track active. If you increase your activity level your constipation problem should soon subside.
Avoid salt, starch and caffeine. Starchy, breaded, thick foods clog your system and can make a constipation problem worse. When constipated avoid eating potatoes, breads, bananas and plantains. You should also avoid beverages and foods that dehydrate your body such as alcohol, coffee, soda and salty foods.
Use laxatives as a last resort. You need to be careful when using laxatives since continuous use can decrease the function of your bowel. In an emergency, laxatives can by used to effectively relieve constipation. You can buy laxatives at any local drug store for a relatively low price.
