You don't need to suffer from a yeast infection any longer. Treating a yeast infection can be fast and simple by following my tried and true yeast infection remedy. Read on and find relief now!

Recognizing a Yeast Infection:

Before you start treating a yeast infection you should be sure that is what you have.  The symptoms of a yeast infection can contain all or just some of the following symptoms: white vaginal discharge that is the consistency of cottage cheese, irritation around and inside the vagina, intense burning and itching inside and outside the vagina, redness, pain during intercourse, and pain during urination.

If you have never had a yeast infection before and aren't sure if you are suffering from one you can purchase a kit at your local drug store that tests your vaginal pH and decipher if you have a yeast infection or not. If you are still in doubt, you can always visit your doctor for confirmation.

Preventing a Yeast Infection:

Prevention is always the best treatment. By knowing the causes of yeast infections you can actively work to prevent them from occurring.

Yeast infections are an over growth of the fungus known as Candida Albicans (common called yeast) that naturally occurs in the body.  There is supposed to be a balance of bacteria and yeast in the vagina, but sometimes the yeast overpowers the bacteria and causes a yeast infection.

The overgrowth of yeast can be caused by a number of things. Immune suppressants and antibiotics are known to be the most common cause for an imbalance of yeast.  Yeast thrives in a moist, warm environment so simply staying in a wet swim suit for too long, sweaty or non-cotton underwear that doesn't breathe, tight jeans, tights or leggings can cause a yeast infection.  Yeast infections can also be caused by a change in hormones due to oral contraceptives or pregnancy.

Treating a Yeast Infection:

There are many treatments available for yeast infections. As someone who commonly suffers from yeast infections I have tried every trick in the book. The most effective way to treat a yeast infection is as follows:

  •  AZO Yeast. Take this over-the-counter tablet to instantly relieve the symptoms of a yeast infection. It contains the natural ingredients your body needs to fight the infection. It also claims to help prevent them from recurring. AZO Yeast is my secret charm, and since discovering it I have not had another yeast infection.

  • Monistat. You should also use this over-the-counter yeast infection treatment to fight the infection. Among the main Monistat treatment box options, I recommend the 3 day treatment with ready-to-use disposable applicators and external itch relief cream. You insert an applicator into your vagina just before bedtime and squirt cream up that works to kill the yeast over night. Make sure the applicators are filled with cream and not suppository tablets, as I have found that the tablets are less effective because they don't absorb as well as cream and tend to slip back out of the vagina.
    • I have found that the 1 day treatment, while attractive (nobody wants to deal with a yeast infection longer then they have to), doesn't kill the infection completely, and then it comes back after a week or so.  I also tend to vomit when I take the 1 day treatment, since it contains a higher dosage that my body reacts to
    • The 7 day treatment fully cures the infection, but waiting 7 days for relief from a yeast infection is unnecessary, cruel and unusual punishment.  That is why I recommend the 3 day treatment.

  • Yogurt.  Yogurt contains live bacteria cultures that naturally destroy yeast. Eat yogurt twice a day, and if you can use a tampon applicator to topically apply yogurt to the vaginal.

  • No sugar. Stop eating sugary foods. Sugar feeds yeast and promotes its growth. It can make a yeast infection worse.

  • Garlic. Garlic is known to naturally kill yeast. You can eat whole garlic gloves, take garlic oil capsules, or even insert a clove into the vagina over night.

  • Dress for a yeast infection. If you can, go without underwear. Otherwise make sure to wear underwear that is cotton, light and loose.  Wear a dress, baggy pants or baggy shorts - the point is to let your vagina breath and to keep the surrounding area dry and cool.
