Being constipated is frustrating and painful, and if not taken care of - could result in more dangerous health problems. Read below to discover treatments for constipation that can give you relief today!
Load up on fiber. Fiber is nature's natural laxative. You can find fiber in fruits and leafy green vegetables, such as broccoli, spinach, peas and beans. You can also mix water-soluble fiber supplements in your drinks to help you stay regular.
Move your body! By staying active you keep blood moving and flowing through your organs, which keeps your digestive system moving and working correctly. If you are constipated, do a hard workout that gets your blood pumping for at least 30 minutes. The activity should get your system pumping that bowel movement out in no time!
Drink lots of liquids. By keeping yourself hydrated you loosen your bowel movements and lubricate your intestines. This allows poop to soften and move through your system easier. You should drink at least eight 8 oz glasses of water a day. If drinking just plain water is boring to you, you can also drink unsweetened herbal tea, lemonade and prune juice - all which are very effective in helping to relieve the constipated.
Avoid foods that block up your system. Avoid bread and starchy, thick foods. When suffering from constipation, good foods to avoid are potatoes, breads, bananas and plantains.
Purchase over-the-counter laxatives. You need to be careful when using laxatives since continuous use can decrease the function of your bowel, they should always be a last resort. When used sparingly however, laxatives can treat constipation by helping water to collect in your colon, absorb into your stool and the intestinal muscles to contract and push the stool out of your body.
