- Take valerian herbal supplements. Valerian has shown to improve sleep quality when taken for 1 - 2 weeks.
- Take sleeping pills. While you should never take sleep inducing medication for long periods of time, sleeping pills can help your body fall asleep and learn how to asleep on a schedule. Prescription sleeping medicines include eszopiclone, ramelteon, zaleplon, and zolpidem.
- Taking antidepressants can act as a sedative and help you sleep.
- Antihistamines found in certain pain and allergy medications can cause drowsiness and induce sleep. When taken occasionally, it is a safe and effective method of getting to sleep and sleeping through the night.
