We've all been the one to secretly hold our breath and take a step back as a friend or acquaintance spoke to us with powerfully bad breath. You don't want to be that person with the dreaded mouth odor. Keep reading to find out what is the best bad breath remedy!
Oral hygiene is your best bad breath remedy.
Bad breath comes from the growth of bacteria and decaying food particles in your mouth. To avoid having bad breath you need to clean your teeth, mouth and tongue regularly and thoroughly. Good oral hygiene can be attained as follows:
- Brushing your tongue. Pay special attention to brushing the back of your tongue. This is a place where bacteria like to grow and small bits of food like to stick. You can use your toothbrush or you can purchase a tongue scraper to remove that gunk that builds up on the back of your tongue that is most often the biggest cause for bad breath.
- Flossing your teeth. Regularly floss your teeth with dental floss before you brush them with a toothbrush. Flossing removes food particles from between your teeth that a toothbrush can't reach. You want to brush after flossing to remove any debris that you dislodged from between your teeth.
- Brushing your teeth. You should brush your teeth for a minimum of 2 minutes. This gives you enough time to brush every surface area of your teeth. It is a good idea to use toothpaste with fluoride and tartar control to keep your teeth and gums healthy as well.
- Rinsing with mouth wash. Rinsing with mouth wash after you have flossed and brushed kills any bacteria that may still remain in your mouth. Mouthwash can fight gum disease and tooth decay as well. It also gives your breath a temporary fresh peppermint, spearmint, or whatever-flavor-you-choose taste and smell!
Ideally, you will want to clean your mouth after every meal - including using floss and mouth wash. If you are short on time however, at the very least you should floss and brush your teeth and tongue after every time you eat. This is necessary in order to remove bath breath causing food particles and bacteria.
