Here are 3 success promising science fair project tips:
Be creative
The first thing that impresses science fair judges is originality. Focus on a topic that no one else has focused on before. Is there something you’ve always wondered about? When you choose a topic ask yourself, “When ____ occurs, how does this affect _____?" or "In what way does _____ affect ____?" The options for science projects are endless.
Use the scientific method
The judges look to see if you used the scientific method. This can be done by selecting an original question about science and then gathering information through different resources about the topic you chose. Form a hypothesis about your question – after your research, why do you think ____ affects ____ in the way it does? Or in what way do you think ____ affects ____?
Your science project should then be about experimenting to see if your hypothesis is correct or not. Creativity is important when selecting experiments to test your hypothesis. Collect the data from your experiments and analyze and interpret it in order to draw a conclusion. Was your hypotheses right? What did you learn? Be able to explain to the judges how the scientific method relates to your project without reading it off your display or project report.
Pay attention to the display
Make sure your experimental procedures, data and conclusions are presented clearly and logically on your science fair project display. Having either a light background with dark words and pictures, or a dark background with light words and pictures is important so that the information is easy to ready. Science fair judges like displays to be eye catching. Use cool graphics and legible but fun fonts. The project itself should be well constructed and durable, meaning you should be able to easily transport it from home to school and back again.
