Organizing your closet can save you having to rummage through your clothes each morning. Check out these tips on how to effectively organize your closet space:
Sort
Take all of the clothes out of your closet. See if there are any clothes you can donate (Salvation Army, mobile clothes bank etc.). Search for clothes that may have escaped the laundry hamper or have fallen from their hanger. Separate the clothes by type (sweaters, dress shirts, pants etc.).
Hang the clothes in your closet in sections according to their type. This will help you easily access the particular outfit you are looking for. Another method you can use is to organize the clothes by color. Those more inspired by color when choosing their outfit may find this option more appealing. Utilize your newfound ground space by placing your shoes and hamper there. If there is a top shelf, use that space for your baseball caps, fedoras, and shoeboxes.
Get over-the-door racks if your closet doors swing out. You can use these racks for ties, belts, scarves, and slippers. Consider getting a hanging shoe rack if you have a large shoe collection. Shoe racks don’t take much space and can store up to ten pairs (although bigger shoes might not fit into the spaces). Place stackable plastic bins on the closet floor to store costumes and seasonal clothes.
Customize your closet if the space doesn’t provide the features you need. Install an overhead shelf yourself if your closet doesn’t provide one (use 3/4” board). Raise the rod and install an additional one below to hang pants and shorter materials (if the ceiling height allows). Don’t let a shelf-less closet stop you from being organized!
