Studying math does not have to be a dueling task. There are ways to study math that make learning easier. Math was never my forte, however by following these basic math study tips I still managed to get good grades
Skip problems that stump you and go back later.
If you get stuck at a problem skip it and go on to the next question. Often times you will be reminded how to solve the question that you did not get while solving others. If you still do not understand, ask the teacher to explain it to you.
Read the whole problem before you solve it.
Never assume you know what the question is before you read it entirely. Too often students give a wrong answer when they knew how to give the right one because they assumed they knew what the question was asking.
Draw out the problem.
A hand drawn diagram of the math problem helps you to view the question in its entirety. Even if you are able to visualize the mathematical situation drawing and writing it out is always the best way to solving a problem.
Remember that you do not need to use all the numbers in a math problem.
Extra information is often added to math problems to see if you can recognize the information that you need. Do not assume you have the wrong answer if you did not use a certain figure. Instead, go back over the problem and make sure you did it right.
Always show your work.
Even though it can be tempting to simply write down the answer if you think you know it. Showing your work allows you and your teacher to go back and discover where it is that you made a wrong turn in your calculations. If you show your work teachers often give you partial credit even if the answer is wrong.
Read the textbook.
Always read over the assigned sections of your text book before going on to solve the problems. Look at the examples and determine if you understand how they arrived at the answer. If you don't understand, go through the reading again.
